E&P In Search of Outstanding Story-Telling Pictures From Past Year

Editor & Publisher, the national trade publication, is accepting submissions for its "Photos of the Year" contest for pictures published in newspapers or on Web sites.

Any CNHI newsroom that took exceptional pictures capturing the mosaic of community life -- happiness, sadness, relief, fear, death -- should consider entering the contest.

You can submit your potential prize-winning photos to:
www.editorandpublisher.nielsencontests.com.

The deadline for entries is Sept. 12.

Photos published in newspapers or on newspaper Web sites since Oct. 1, 2007 through Sept. 11, 2008 are eligible for entry. Competition is within these circulation groups:

-- More than 250,000
-- 100,000-249,999
-- 25,000-99,999
-- Less than 25,000

A grand prize winner will receive $1,000 and a professional digital camera. Sixteen additional photos in four categories will be honored. E&P will also recognize deserving photos with honorable mentions.

The four categories are:

-- News (Spot/General): A photo of an unscheduled or scheduled news event
-- Features: A storytelling photo used in any section of the newspaper, often with strong human interest
-- Sports: A photo of a sports event or individual
-- Multiple Images/Photo Essay: A series of images (between three and 10 photos) used to convey a story or a series.
