Motorist strikes, kills mountain lionA male lion was struck Tuesday while crossing a road along the South Canadian River near Minco, Okla. (Courtesy photo) CNHI News Service TUTTLE, Okla. – A motorist traveling on a Grady County road had a shocking experience when his car struck a mountain lion, killing the animal. The male lion was estimated to be between 12 and 20 months old, said Micah Holmes with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife. Holmes said it was unusual for a mountain lion to be spotted near a metropolitan area, but not unheard of. “There was one in Tulsa earlier this summer but it is certainly rare,” he said. It is believed the cat may have been forced out of its old territory by another mountain lion and was searching for a new place to live and hunt. “They’re solitary animals, with big ranges,” he said. “They don’t interact with each other except for mating season.” --- |
