Norman Transcript Twittering

The trip to the Cotton Bowl for the football game between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas is a rite of passage for Sooner and Longhorn fans.
Dallas is transformed into a battleground pitting the crimson and cream of Oklahoma versus the burnt orange of Texas. Sooners and Longhorns can’t get enough information on the game.
Transcript university reporter Julianna Parker helped satisfy some of that news appetite. Besides stories on the spirit squads, the band, traditions and rallies, she blogged on the newspaper’s Web site.
Her brief postings included traffic tips on the way down, notes on the fans, impressions from the Texas State Fair and other such musings. It was promoted during the week’s advance stories and also on the Web itself with a photo of the reporter holding an OU flag.
Parker posted to the site from her iPhone through a connection devised by Transcript Web Editor Jason Clarke. Parker posted short entries (140 characters or less) to the Transcript’s Twitter account. Using a combination of RSS, PHP and Javascript, the Twitter posts were fed directly to the Transcript Web site, automatically adding new entries at the top of the page an removing older ones from the bottom.
An example of the feed can be seen at normantranscript.com/twitter.
