Price of gas drops below $2 per gallon

MIDDLETON, Mass. — To the delight of motorists, the price for a gallon of regular gasoline has dipped below $2 in this suburban Boston community for the first time in nearly four years.

"I was just sitting here looking at (the price)," said Matt Caulfield of Boxford. "I'm looking at 40 bucks," he said of the cost for a fill-up. "Three months ago, it was $80."

Gas last averaged below $2 a gallon in March 2005, according to GasBuddy.com, a Web site devoted to tracking gas prices. Four local stations were selling regular below that price.
