Stripped down sentences say more

Writing coach Paula LaRocque says weed out the garden variety redundancy and wordiness for succinct sentences.
"Wordiness is a chief enemy of a clear, brief, bright, precise and pleasing writing style," LaRocque writes in Society of Professional Journalists' Quill Online. "The best writers try to make every word count. They use one strong word that illuminates their message rather than a handful of weaker words that obscure it."

As “The End of the World as We Know It,” by REM, blared out of the sound system and screenshots of newspaper pages predicting the downfall of the industry filled a screen, a group of consultants, speakers and trainers met this past weekend to discuss the future of newspapers.
